Shellabration lands on top
9 Feb 2018
ZZ TOP, the bearded blues rock band with the longest active streak of having its original members intact, will be in Fort Dodge to headline Shellabration this summer.
“It’s the first time for Shellabration that we will have an artist comprised of all the original members,” Jim Reed, president of Shellabration Inc., said. “This is going to be huge. To say it’s going to be huge is probably an understatement for Fort Dodge.”
The three-piece band from Houston, Texas, will perform June 30 at the Harlan and Hazel Rogers Sports Complex, 1628 Nelson Ave., on the Fort Dodge Soccer Association fields.
“This has been four years in the making,” Reed said. “We have been making offers to ZZ TOP for four years.”
Reed added in a written statement, “Ironically, it took exactly the same number of years for us to land REO Speedwagon in 2011 and Boston in 2015. Those were two of our most successful shows. Four appears to be our lucky number as we climb yet another rung on the band booking, bucket list ladder.”
Boston marked Shellabration’s highest attendance with more than 8,100 people.
“If there was ever an opportunity to break the record, this could and should be the year,” Reed said.
Reed, along with Ted Bodensteiner, vice president of Shellabration Inc., have both seen ZZ TOP perform.
Both came away impressed.
“We never buy anything sight unseen,” Bodensteiner said. “We want to make sure they get previewed.”
Reed said if he had to pick one word to describe ZZ TOP, it would be swagger.
