Two blocks of Main Street in Manson will be reconstructed and redesigned this summer, according to Mayor Dave George.

“This has been something we have talked about for 10 to 12 years,” George said. “But we had to wait until the funding was right.”

Representatives from Short Elliot Hendrickson Inc., of Johnston, presented a conceptual plan of the Manson Downtown Streetscape project Tuesday night.

About 30 people attended the meeting inside the MAC Center, 1227 16th St.

SEH was hired by the city as the consulting firm for the project. The firm is working with McClure Engineering Co., of Fort Dodge.

The project components include reconstruction of street, curb/gutter, sidewalks, replacing water main and water services, replacing storm sewer and intake structures, replacing street lights and the traffic signal, and reconstructing the alley north of 10th Avenue.

Canopies along Main Street will also be removed, George said.

George, who is in his 15th year as mayor, said the project will be funded mostly through bonding.

He said street projects are considered essential corporate purposes.

He also said the city would pursue any grants that might be available.
