Catalyst Award nominations being accepted

Nominations are open for an award that honors a Fort Dodge business leader who has contributed to the growth of the community.
The Catalyst Award, which is given out annually by the Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance, will be presented at the Growth Alliance’s annual dinner March 1 at the Best Western Starlite Village Inn & Suites.
Jill Nelson, community development director for the Growth Alliance, said the Catalyst Award recognizes a community member “that has been very active and involved and has excelled both in the community and in their place of business.”
The Catalyst Award has been given out every year since 1986.
Norma Schmoker was the original recipient of the award.
Last year’s award was given to Bruce Shimkat.
The award used to alternate between a male and female recipient every year, but Nelson said now it goes to the most qualified recipient, regardless of gender.
Nelson said there are four criteria for the Catalyst Award, and each of the criteria are weighed equally.
Firstly, the nominee must be a member of the Growth Alliance and have shown active involvement in the community.
They also must be an active and visible leader who has been a catalyst for enhancing economic and community development.
“The nominee must demonstrate excellence in their place of business and then they need to contribute or have contributed significant time and effort to promote community spirit and pride,” Nelson said.
