A proposed new shopping center to be built where the vacant Sears store at Crossroads Mall now stands received a key endorsement Tuesday.
The Fort Dodge Plan and Zoning Commission voted unanimously to recommend that the zoning of the site be changed to allow the construction of the center.
Commission members also voted unanimously to recommend vacating and eventually selling a city-owned driveway into the mall area to Hutton Growth LLC, of Chattanooga, Tennessee. That company is planning the new shopping center.
Both matters now go to the City Council. The council has already set public hearings on both items for Oct. 10.
