REPORTS TO: Holy Trinity Parish and St. Edmond Catholic School Director of Operations and Finance COLLABORATES WITH: Saint Edmond President, Director of Development, Parish Life Director, Director of Operations and Finance OVERSEES: Marketing Coordinator and Administrative Assistant to Communications and Development
PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Director of Communications will lead, plan, direct and implement overall strategies for communications on behalf of Holy Trinity Parish and St. Edmond School in order to raise the parish’s and school’s visibility, and articulate clear messaging to the entire Catholic community. The Director will oversee and actively participate in the creation, design, budget and production of regular and special events, and all publications directed to parishioners, parents, school alumni, and donors. Additionally, the Director will coordinate all advertising, publicity, marketing, and public relations, and serve as the parish’s and school’s spokesperson when so designated by the Director of Operations and Finance and the St. Edmond President. The primary objectives of the Director of Communications are: (1) to create and provide strategic communications and marketing direction for Holy Trinity Parish and St. Edmond School; (2) to provide an interactive experience for parishioners, parents, and school alumni; (3) to support the efforts of parish stewardship and the development department in attracting donors for both the parish and school; and (4) to oversee and advise the Marketing Coordinator at St. Edmond Catholic School. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Director of Communications will be expected to: • Understand the history, parameters and mission of Holy Trinity Parish; have the ability to highlight who we are as a Catholic community; and be aware of and publicize all events/activities of the parish. • Understand the history, culture, traditions and constituencies of St. Edmond School; understand the educational philosophy; and be aware of and publicize all events/activities of the school. • Promote Catholic identity which serves as the foundation and guiding force for the Catholic educational experience, and convey the message that Catholic identity permeates the school’s culture and the school’s way of life. • Possess a passion for the overall mission of the parish, school, and development, and communicate that passion to others. • Know and use all various forms of communication, and be aware of the optimal ways to communicate with target audiences. Track engagement across various platforms. • Be cognizant of new advancements in communications, and be aware of innovative and contemporary avenues to utilize in communications. • Engage actively in professional development in order to remain current in best practices related to independent school communications and parish communications, and effective marketing and advertising strategies. • Review, revise, and update as necessary the school’s crisis communication plan. • In addition to disseminating information, the Director of Communications will: assist the parish, school, and development department in utilizing the information that flows back in to help move the mission forward; design surveys to gather data to help make decisions; and support the staff to utilize our databases effectively in ministering and communicating our missions. • Design strategies and implement concrete plans to evangelize within the Church and throughout the county. • In collaboration with the Director of Development, design strategies and implement concrete plans to capitalize on increased visibility and clear branding of the school to drive increased contributed revenue. • Oversee the planning for and deployment of digital interactive activities for the parish and school: website; online campaigns; email marketing; social media; and digital content production. • Plan and manage the department budget in order to maximize the effectiveness of all communications. This includes bidding out production of materials when appropriate to outside vendors. • Manage all aspects of the school’s print and electronic communications, ensuring the continuity of the parish’s and school’s brand and logo. Oversee the work of graphic designers and print vendors in production of printed materials and web visuals. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED: • A degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to marketing and communications. • Three to five years of increased leadership experience in marketing and communications, preferably in an independent school or other non-profit organization. • Performance management and evaluation. • Outstanding speaking, writing, and editing skills. • Deep knowledge of the principles of marketing and communications and fluency in using social media effectively. • Ability to develop, monitor, and adhere to budgets and production schedules. • Ability to create print materials using Photoshop, InDesign, or other comparable layout software. • Demonstrated success in bringing regular, positive media attention to an organization. • Demonstrated success in managing multiple projects with shifting priorities and competing deadlines.
