Decker Truck Line, Inc. 2018 Driver Awards Ceremony
Fort Dodge, IA: On Wednesday, March 27, starting at 10 am Central time Decker Truck Line, Inc. held their annual 2018 Driver Awards Ceremony. The event was open to the public. Professional Drivers, Decker employees and their families; who were not able to attend at the Fort Dodge Terminal were invited to participate through DTL’S Facebook LIVE event. Pastries, fruit and beverages were served. The Awards Ceremony celebrated Grand Champion Driver of the Year, Drivers of the Year, Million Mile Drivers and Shop Safe Worker Awards.
First, the ceremony started with the Shop Safe Worker Awards. Decker Truck Line, Inc. Shop Safe Worker Award Program is designed to enforce and encourage safe working habits throughout the year for employees who qualify. The requirements include; one year of seniority, full-time employment, no preventable accidents or incidents, current on all re-occurring safety training, successfully completed the quarterly safety meeting requirements (Shop and TLS personnel) and no write ups, including, but not limited to, any PPE violations or any other safety violations.
Shop Safe Worker Awards were distributed by Department Managers. Starting with Rod Simon, Vice President of Maintenance, allocating the Shop Department certificates. Following Eddie Jacobson, Buildings & Grounds Manager, dispersed the Buildings and Grounds certificates.
Todd Donnelly, Transport Loading Services, Inc. Manager, honored and distributed certificates to TLS employees on Saturday, March 30.
Second, Don Decker, President - Chairman of the Board, presented the Million Mile Drivers. Million Mile Awards are earned by Professional Drivers who have driven One Million Miles, Two Million Miles, etc. safe miles. To get credit for miles driven prior to DTL, Drivers must obtain verification directly from their previous employers. Forms are available for certification by the Safety Directors of other companies, which must then be submitted to the Safety Department of Decker Truck Line, Inc. Professional Drivers qualifying for a Million Mile Award are named to the Million Mile Team and receive awards signifying the level attained.
Lawrence Soder, Kirk Thygesen and Lonnie Ruberg earned their One Million Safe Mile Awards, receiving a leather Million Mile Team jacket, a decal for their truck, certification and recognition on all Decker Truck Line, Inc. social media outlets, name added to the Million Mile Team plaque and a specially designed engraved sterling silver ring.
Robert Wolvers, Charles Woods and Jeffery Bostic earned their Two Million Mile Awards, receiving a decal for their truck, certification and recognition on all Decker Truck line, Inc. social media outlets and a specially designed engraved aztec gold ring. (Leather jackets are earned at the One Million Mile level.)
Dwight Lahey, Steve Alliger and Rodney Graves earned their Three Million Mile Awards, receiving a decal for their truck, certification and recognition on all Decker Truck Line, Inc. social media outlets and a specially designed engraved 10K gold ring.
Duane Askvig and Steven Jones earned their Four Million Mile Awards, receiving a decal for their truck, certification and recognition on all Decker Truck Line, Inc. social media outlets and a specially designed engraved 10K white gold ring.
Next, Don Decker awarded the 2018 Driver of the Year Awards. The 2018 Professional Drivers of the Year were selected from the 2018 Professional Drivers of the Month who were nominated and selected each month. Driver of the Month/Year nominations and selections are based on each Driver’s individual performance. The following criteria are used to assist in the selection process: monthly Scorecard results, SmartDrive scores, SpeedGauge scores, non CSA-related citations and warnings, hours of service compliance, years of service and overall driving performance. Seven Professional Drivers earned 2018 Driver of the Year Awards.
Midwest Reefer Division, Steve Alliger; West Reefer Division, Chad Hazelton; Teams Division, Gary and Judy Carnahan; Midwest Flatbed Division, Ronald Burken; Southern Flatbed Division, Anthony Vasquez and Owner Operator/Lease Purchase Division, Jerry Arthur. These Professional Drivers received the following awards a custom-made Decker jacket, a wooden plaque, tractor decal and $5,000 (Team Division shares the earnings).
Lastly, one of the 2018 Professional Drivers of the Year were selected as Decker Truck Line, Inc. Grand Champion Driver. The 2018 Grand Champion receives a custom-made jacket, a wooden plaque and an exclusive decal for their tractor and their choice of a 2019 Ford Fiesta car, New Harley-Davidson Roadster Motorcycle or $15,000 cash prize. The 2018 Grand Champion Driver of the Year went to Steve Alliger. Steve choose the $15, 000 cash prize.
Steve Alliger has driven for Decker since 1997, he has driven over three million safe miles—all for Decker Truck Line, Inc. In 2018 alone Steve drove 150,064 miles; delivered 164 loads; has had nearly a perfect average scorecard, no CSA violations or service failures, etc. His driving record is impeccable. Steve is very proud of the fact that DTL has been his only employer since graduating from truck driving school. “Steve Alliger and the other six Division Drivers of the Year are shining examples of true Professional Drivers,” noted Don Decker, “what great examples they set for all Driver out there on the road.”
