Chris Janson to headline Downtown Country Jam
20 Dec 2018
Chris Janson, the most recent inductee into the Grand Ole Oprey and a nationally-known country singer, will be the headliner of the 2019 Downtown Country Jam.
He will be taking the stage on Sept. 21, 2019.
Ted Bodensteiner, Shellabration Inc. vice president, said Janson is a great performer on stage.
“He’s made for live music,” Bodensteiner said. “The live music, stage presence, is unbelievable.”
Bodensteiner, who has worked four Janson concerts in the past, called the singer “dynamic” and “unpredictable.”
“He uses every bit of the stage and interacts with the crowd like very few artists do,” Bodensteiner said. “He’s a performer and he transcends genres in the sense that he brings the rock and roll, but he also does the piano, the slow down music, sentimental type.”
Bodensteiner added that Janson was recently inducted into the Grand Ole Oprey, and is currently the youngest member of it.
Melissa Hansen, Shellabration Inc. board member, saw Janson perform at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake on Jan. 13, 2018.
She said he has great stage presence.
“He plays to the crowd, interacts with the crowd, but he’s also somebody that has a heart,” Hansen said. “His music is about his family. It’s about true to life events; things that have happened to him, things that have happened to others.”
Janson hit the country music charts in 2015 with his self-released hit, “Buy Me a Boat.” It was later picked up and released as a single in May 2015, eventually peaking at No. 5 in August of that same year.
His second album, “Power of Positive Drinkin,'” was released in September 2017 and includes the hit songs “Fix a Drink” and “Drunk Girl.”
Hansen praised “Drunk Girl,” which is a song about a man who takes care of a woman who has become intoxicated and protects her from harm.
“It makes you stop and think and really pay attention to the lyrics,” Hansen said. “His music just has a real true to life experience to it. He’s just an amazing artist.”
While Janson will be the headliner of Downtown Country Jam, he won’t be the only artist performing.
Also taking the stage will be Casey Muessigmann, a Spencer native who competed on season three of “The Voice” as a part of Blake Shelton’s team.
