The group of workers busy constructing a duplex in the emerging Williams Bend neighborhood has something in common — all of them work for companies based in Fort Dodge.

“Everybody is local on this project,” said Rick Wiseman, the owner of Wiseman Construction, of Fort Dodge. “Everything is local, 100 percent local.”

Wiseman and his crew are building a duplex that can be seen from North 15th Street for Windstone Circle LLC, which is also a local firm.

At the opposite end of the new subdivision, Tice Farm Housing LLC, another Fort Dodge company, is building duplexes at 20th Avenue North and Williams Drive. It is also using all local contractors and subcontractors.

Another local company, Rasch Construction Inc., is building a new section of 24th Avenue North between Williams Drive and North 15th Street that will be a main thoroughfare in the neighborhood.

The third developer in the project, Northwest Iowa Building Co. LLC, is based in Ankeny.

Wiseman said using local companies supports Fort Dodge by keeping money in the community.

That money is paid out in wages to workers, who then spend it with local stores and other businesses. The home builders also spend money with area lumber yards and other suppliers who in turn pay their employees, who spend money with other businesses.
