What sparked your interest in your career path?

My passion has always been coaching.  When I was going through the thoughts of careers/schooling – I wanted to make sure I was able to take time to be a coach – but I never wanted to be a teacher! As college soccer took me to Briar Cliff University, sports management seemed to be right up my alley. When I graduated, I knew I wanted to be near to home and keep a career path in health and wellness.  I have always enjoyed helping others and wanting to make a difference in their lives -Friendship Haven has been a perfect fit!

What’s the best part of your work?

Seeing the health changes in the participants the wellness team works with. We get to hear stories of how we helped them maintain their balance, health and physical fitness while also keeping them socially involved with other participants. The residents and community we teach are always thankful – which makes the job easy!

Life is full of defining moments that helped shape who you are today.  What’s your defining moment?

Having married a wonderful husband and grateful we have started a family together.  He allows me to pursue my passion in working odd hours, coaching late into the evenings and working as hard as he does to keep our family going.   What community project that you were involved in are you most proud of and why? Walk to End Alzheimer’s.  Not only do I work around those living with Alzheimer’s daily, my grandma has suffered it for many years.  It is a great fundraiser and event for everyone to be involved in or help out in any way they can.

What’s the best part of living in the Fort Dodge area?

I enjoy seeing so many kids playing outside in the neighborhoods and knowing all our neighbors.  We recently had someone new to the neighborhood who came and introduced herself.  We have an older couple who always comments they love to see us outside playing and enjoy the boys running around. There are also a lot of neighborhood friendly dogs who my kids like to watch!  I feel we should take pride in having the friendliness and safety in the area that we may take for granted other communities do not have.

What’s your advice to other young professionals?

Do not get so caught up in your work life you become too stressed to take care of your health and wellness. Healthy bodies are important! Exercise, watch what you eat and SLEEP! Your job is not as important as maintaining your health! The Fort Dodge Young Professionals has a lot of fun opportunities and events to join.

What’s on your bucket list?

I would really like to become a certified pilates instructor!

What would you like to share about your family and/or hobbies?

Our family will soon be living on an acreage north east of town. We are renovating an old farmhouse and adding a few more rooms to it.  I will be excited when we can call it our home for good in October.   Our boys love being outside and partaking in any activity that involves a sports ball.  Our two year old, Hank – loves to golf and play catch with his dad. Vincent is an independent little boy who enjoys getting the ball a few times here and there when his brother allows!
