April 2….“Lessons of the Holocaust”  Presented by Brad Wilkening, an educator and Holocaust scholar.  He feels the lessons from the holocaust are more relevant now than ever before.  The violence, intolerance, bigotry and hatred must come to an end.  Bullying and indifference start at an early age and we have a responsibility to help create a safer, more caring environment. This presentation should help make us better community members.

April 9….“Floods, Tornadoes, Blizzards, Droughts and Other Surprising Iowa Weather” Presented by Brett McIntyre, Meteorologist, a Fort Dodge native, 2004 graduate of Fort Dodge Senior High and 2008 graduate of Iowa State University.  With almost 12 years of experience as a meteorologist at WHO TV13 in Des Moines, he has covered all types of severe weather.  Stop by to hear some of his stories of the wildest weather in Iowa, what a day is like as a meteorologist, and learn about some of the essential tools used in forecasting.  This program is a must-see!

April 16….“The Underground Railroad in Iowa” Presented by Gary and Judy Huxford, retired Iowa public school teachers.  The Underground Railroad has always been a fascinating subject for Civil War historians—the secrecy of its operations and the mystery with which the whole system was shrouded provide us with many opportunities for speculation. This program will give a brief history of the underground railroad, centering on Iowa sites.  Special emphasis is given to J.B. Grinnell and his impact on the Iowa underground railroad.  This is a fascinating piece of Iowa history.

April 23….“Hot Changes at the Fire Department” Presented by Fort Dodge Fire Chief Steve Hergenreter.  Learn all about the new addition to the fire station and the transition of the ambulance service.  Chief Hergenreter will review fire prevention and fire safety education.

Do you know everything you should do if you see a neighbor’s house on fire?  Come and find out!

April 30….“The Lotus Community Project-A Seed of Potential Planted in an Unlikely Place”  Presented by Ashley Vaala, Executive Director.  Lotus is a homeless shelter for women and children in the former St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Vincent.  Since its beginning January, 2019, they have served nearly 150 women and children.  Come learn about Ashley’s personal story, how Lotus was born, and all the progress they’ve made up to this point. This is truly an inspiring story.
