Clerk (Auditor Office)
Under direction of the County Auditor, provides receptionist / clerical support to Auditor's office and the Board of Supervisors. Duties relate to general real estate transactions, voter registration and the election process, data entry, customer service, maintaining records, general bookkeeping and filing claims. General: 1) Answers and directs incoming phone calls. 2) Provides customer service at the front counter, on the phone, by email or written correspondence. Assists the public with information. 3) Accurately types correspondence, documents, reports, forms and other materials. 4) Copies, faxes, sends and files material as directed. 5) Enters / files claims and tracks payment. 6) Cross trains for other duties within the department, including Drainage and Claims DEMONSTRATED SKILLS AND ABILITIES The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can safely perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skill and abilities. Ability to interact with the public, co-workers, supervisors and other public officials in a courteous manner. Excellent communication skills. Strong attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs such as Word and Excel. Ability to type accurately and at a reasonable speed. Ability to maintain orderly records and files using standard alphabetical or numerical sequencing. Ability to apply mathematics, add and subtract, multiply and divide totals, and determines percentages. Knowledge of/ability to learn standard bookkeeping practices. Ability to read and interpret drainage plats and familiarity with real estate descriptions and terminology is a plus. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. WORK REQUIREMENTS Much work is performed inside an office setting. Work involves sitting, standing, and moving. Must be able to lift at least 30 lbs. Starting wage is $14.22/hour. Wage increases to $15.90 at 6 months and to $17.23 at one year. Further step increases are determined by the current bargaining unit contract.
