Business leaders and the city of Fort Dodge are looking into joining the Main Street Iowa program again.

Carissa Harvey, Fort Dodge senior city planner, and Jill Nelson, community development director for the Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance, are now working on filling out an application for the program. But it can’t go forward unless it has community and business support.

“In order to apply for Main Street, we would have to submit our application by May 18,” Harvey said. “In order to do so we have to build public support, and also outline our financials.”

Business owners, building owners and others interested in downtown Fort Dodge attended an informational meeting Wednesday night at the Fort Dodge Municipal Building presented by Michael Wagler, state coordinator for Main Street Iowa.

As Harvey and Nelson reach out to downtown businesses, members of the Self-Supported Municipal Improvement District Board will also be reaching out, said board President Steve Pederson.
