Electric & Natural Gas
MidAmerican Energy Company services Fort Dodge (Webster County) with both Electric and Natural Gas.  MidAmerican Energy meets its customers’ demand for electricity with more than 7,000 megawatts of owned generating capacity. Approximately 48% is fueled by coal; 26% by wind; 19% by natural gas and oil; 6% by nuclear; and less than 1% by other sources, such as hydroelectric. A peak demand record of more than 4,700 megawatts was set July 19, 2011.

The MidAmerican Advantage
We believe we offer an advantage no other energy supplier in the Midwest can match.

  • In 2011, MidAmerican Energy ranked first in the Midwest Region in the J.D. Power and Associates business electric, residential electric and business natural gas customer satisfaction surveys.
  • MidAmerican Energy is No. 1 in the U.S. among rate-regulated utilities in terms of ownership of wind-powered generation. MidAmerican Energy has 2,284.8 megawatts of wind-energy generation in its portfolio. When the expansion is complete, approximately 29% of MidAmerican Energy’s total generation capacity will come from wind.
  • MidAmerican Energy offers EnergyAdvantage®, an energy efficiency program for new commercial construction and installation of energy-efficient equipment and lighting. Rebate incentives are available to help offset the higher costs associated with the design and installation of energy-efficient options.
  • MidAmerican Energy’s parent company, MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company, is privately owned and, as such, is not subject to the quarterly whims of Wall Street. This allows MidAmerican to focus on long-term growth in improving energy infrastructure. Berkshire Hathaway, MidAmerican’s principal owner, is one of the most respected companies in the world.
